Coral Reef Restoration
Our most recent CSR initiative focused on coral reef restoration along the southern coast of Sri Lanka, supporting the recovery of vital marine ecosystems in Weligama.
This project was carried out in partnership with Sampath Bank, neighbouring hotels, the Department of Wildlife Conservation, partner organizations, and the local community as part of Sampath Bank’s “A Breath to the Ocean” Oceanic Ecosystem Restoration Programme, launched in 2022.
As the 6th initiative under this programme, coral restoration activities were conducted in Walliwalla and Kapparathota, Weligama, with the aim of revitalizing reef ecosystems and supporting marine biodiversity along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline.
For Eraeliya, this initiative represents our commitment to protecting the ocean that shapes our home, our community, and the experiences we share with our guests. By supporting ocean restoration and coastal conservation, we hope to play a small but meaningful role in building a safer, healthier, and more resilient blue economy.
Caring Beyond Our Gardens: The Eraeliya Community Dog Project
Small Acts of Kindness, Lasting Pawprints of Change
At Eraeliya Villas & Gardens, we believe that true hospitality extends beyond the guests we welcome and into the community and natural surroundings we call home. Nestled along the beautiful southern coastline of Sri Lanka, we share our neighbourhood with many community dogs who are equally part of the character and spirit of Weligama. Recognising the importance of their wellbeing, we are proud to support a compassionate community dog welfare initiative dedicated to creating a safer, healthier, and more caring environment for these animals.
In collaboration with Cape Weligama, Ayurvie, and Vets for Future, our initiative has brought together local hospitality partners, veterinary professionals, and caring individuals to provide essential sterilisation, vaccination, and post-treatment care for neighbourhood dogs. Through these efforts, we aim to improve animal welfare, reduce the challenges associated with uncontrolled breeding, and encourage a more sustainable and humane approach to caring for our community’s four-legged residents.
Beyond veterinary care, this project is about kindness, responsibility, and the belief that every living being deserves compassion. From providing nourishment and supporting recovery to raising awareness about responsible animal care, each contribution represents a meaningful step towards a better future.
For us, sustainability is not only about protecting the environment but also about nurturing the lives that share it. Through the Eraeliya Community Dog Project, we hope to inspire greater awareness, encourage collective action, and demonstrate how even the smallest acts of kindness can create a lasting impact.
Because a caring community is one that looks after all its residents, including those with four paws.
