Dining at Eraeliya
Dining at Eraeliya Villas & Gardens is not your typical restaurant experience. Instead of a central restaurant, guests dine privately on the veranda, balcony or terrace of their own room or villa. We have an a la carte menu featuring international dishes, plus Sri Lankan rice and curry, and meals can be ordered from our team of butlers throughout the day. We are more than happy to undertake special requests for dining, as well as cater to special diets, and we pride ourselves in being able to provide a bespoke dining experience. For those all-important special occasions, we can arrange a private romantic table for two on the lawn beneath the swaying coconut palms, and a candlelit feast of lobster and fresh local seafood. We can also set up a private BBQ for you beside our fire pit for a minimum of four guests.
Since our private villa is located within a certain distance of a local school, we don’t have a bar at our premises. Guests may bring their own alcohol with them for consumption at the villa, and our butlers will serve it to them. We have a fabulous selection of mocktails too, and these can be transformed into a cocktail of your choice using your preferred liquor. You can buy alcohol from liquor shops in Weligama, or in Galle, which has a better selection.
There are a growing number of restaurants and cafes near us now, and as much as we would love to cook for you all the time, we also think it’s great if you try a few of them. Only Cape Weligama is within walking distance yet the others are just a short tuk tuk ride away.
Cape Weligama – This high end resort on the western headland of our little bay is a very picturesque place for a special meal or a drink. On Wednesdays and Sundays they put on a seafood dinner and on Monday and Fridays they have a Sri Lankan buffet. You can also go for high tea from 3-5pm or have a pre-dinner drink in their sea-facing Moon Bar.
Café Ceylon – A real gem of a restaurant, tucked away in a spacious garden near Kabalana Beach, serving innovative fusion cuisine using fresh and unusual local ingredients. On the menu are tuna burgers, sweet potato chips, gotukola salads, fresh lagoon oysters, baked snake gourd, Koggala Lagoon prawns and much more. Great juices and shakes too. Family friendly.
Hangtem Rooftop – The convivial upper floor all-day café of the Hangtime Hostel offers incredible Weligama Bay views, coffee, burgers, hearty salads, healthy wraps, pasta and pizza. They don’t serve alcohol but you can BYO. There are rooftop yoga classes at 9am.
Aloha Weligama – Coffee, tuna burgers and waffles are the specialities of this casual streetside café with an upper floor for gazing out across the bay.
Soul Café – Another little café serving great coffees, shakes and juices, and all day meals.
Ceylon Sliders – A popular café in a palm-shaded courtyard serving simple, nutritious all day breakfasts well as good local coffee, juices and smoothies from 7am until 2pm. They have a great shop, offer surf lessons and host rooftop yoga classes (with sea views) at 6.30am daily.
W15 – A modern, upmarket hotel on Weligama’s beachfront with a big bar, sociable garden area and tables on the sand for drinks/dining. They serve fab cocktails, wine, champagne and beers, good food, have shisha and they also host occasional parties during the season.
Weligama Bay Marriott Hotel & Spa – New high rise hotel on Weligama Beach with international-quality wining and dining venues. These include the lunch and dinner buffets at Weligama Kitchen (Sri Lankan, Western, Indian and Chinese/Thai) and the chef driven Big Fish fine dining restaurant. They also have a beautiful spa with indulgent treatments.
